Laura and I went to see the new London revival (ah – an oxymoron) of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last Friday. It was the Children in Need gala performance, with all ticket proceeds going to charity – it was also the only show before February that still had tickets…

It was pretty awesome (Lee Mead is a most excellent Joseph) – and this post is really to prompt me to blog about it more at some point in the not-too-distant future, as soon as I’ve got my uni work out of the way…

There are lots of things I dislike about the London 2012 Olympics. I’m really not going to get started on them here. But today, apparently, Seb Coe and his minions reached another low: they launched the new “brand” for the games:

The shapes are really the numbers 2012. Do you see? Must have taken a whole afternoon to come up with that.

I’ve no idea what it’s really supposed to be or represent, but I’m fairly certain that it will have changed considerably by the time 2012 comes around… It seems that the logo that has been used for the past three years, that everyone now associates with the games, is not good enough…

The BBC promptly asked for readers’ suggestions (because what would a news story be without a good amount of UGC to go alongside it?), a good number of which are considerably better than the official brand. There are also a fair few that extract the Michael… I love this one.

Kids, don’t try this at home. The British Transport Police says it is dangerous. Also dangerous: Nottingham tram surfing.

Yesterday I toddled off on a jaunty saunter down to London (well, it would have been even jollier if Midland Mainline were able to display even the slightest hint of competence).

As always (just ‘cos it’s something I always do), I headed off to Waterstone’s Picadilly. And who should follow me through the front doors? None other than everyone’s favourite convicted perjurer. Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare was launching his new “novel”, a fictional retelling of the events of the New Testament according to Judas Iscariot, and was doing a short signing and television interviews in the store.

More 4 News was there, too.

I’ve spent the last 24 hours trying to work out a joke about Archer, the Bible, and Judas… but I thinkthat pretty much it doesn’t need anything doing to it..

London has been through a lot over the past few decades.

The Luftwaffe didn’t succeed.

The IRA hasn’t succeeded (yet).

What response do they honestly expect to get? If anything, I’d say that the fact that they felt the need to have a second go shows that the first attempt didn’t work.

So give up.
